6th March
Well, what a load of rubbish: there might have been some expectation for the arrival of milder air doing us a favour but all it did was prompt yesterday's fog to linger throughout the hours of darkness and render Portland invisible to any overflying migrants. A paltry tally of singles of Wheatear and Chiffchaff was all that could be mustered at the Bill, with a Black Redstart at Kingbarrow the only other possible new arrival. The fog lingered on well after dawn and likely scuppered what hopes there were for the sea, with 9 Common Scoter, 5 Lesser Black-backed Gulls and a lone Red-throated Diver the sum from the Bill.
