We blame Spain - or at least the current weather over Spain. There didn't seem to be any other logical reason than blocking weather conditions further south for today's really promising mildness and veil of cloud not dropping a decent arrival of migrants - 4 Chiffchaffs in the whole Bill area is barely worth mentioning, let alone qualifying as a decent arrival. Not only was there precious little by day but the evidence from the nocmig recorder was that there nothing moving at night either: singles of Lapwing and Moorhen calling over the Obs were nice oddities but not a single logging of a thrush or Robin represented a dreadful return given the cloud cover and odd spit of damp in the air. A very minor trickle of visible arrivals did get going after daybreak, when 37 Meadow Pipits, 4 alba wagtails and a Starling arrived in/off at the Bill and grounded Stonechats had noticeably increased by the afternoon. The sea was almost as grim as the land, with 138 Gannets, 10 Red-throated Divers and a handful of migrant gulls easily the best of it off the Bill.
