2nd July

A few more little hints of movement on a lovely warm, sunny day: the Bill came up with 4 Sand Martins and a Curlew overhead, a Bullfinch in the Obs garden and 24 Common Scoter, 3 Manx Shearwaters and a Mediterranean Gull through on the sea, whilst Ferrybridge came up with 10 Dunlin, 2 Shelducks and a Redshank. Other reports included the Hooded Crow lingering on at Admiralty Quarry and 3 more Storm Petrels tape-lured and ringed at the Bill in the early hours.

A Sand Dart - we think the fifth Portland record in modern times - at Sweethill was the best of the overnight moth catch; other oddities included a Lesser Wax Moth at Sweethill, a Dark Pine Knot-horn at the Grove and 2 Cream-bordered Green Pea at the Obs, whilst the routine immigrant at the Obs consisted of just 2 Rusty-dot Pearl, 2 Silver Y and a Diamond-back Moth.
