14th July

Another day of uninspiring westerlies, with a gathering veil of cloud becoming a feature as the afternoon wore on. The precious few morsels of interest included 38 Common Scoter, 13 Manx Shearwaters and a Balearic Shearwater through off the Bill and 70 Mediterranean Gulls, a Sanderling and a Redshank at Ferrybridge.

The moth-traps came up with an almost blank return on the immigrant front but continuing dispersal from the mainland came in the form of a Buff Footman at the Obs, a Satin Beauty at Sweethill (about the fourth island record), a Tawny-barred Angle at the Grove.
