10th October

What with a nagging, stiff northwesterly a constant feature routine birding wasn't easy again today but there was some movement to tap into, notably including the first signs of Wood Pigeons getting going, with 360 leaving to the south at the Bill. The Red-backed Shrike lingered on to entertain weekend visitors, with a continuing Short-eared Owl also on offer at the Bill. Sheltered spots still harboured plenty of Blackcaps and Chiffchaffs but beyond these and the likes of a Redstart and a Goldcrest at the Bill there wasn't really much to excite in the common migrant line. A lone Balearic Shearwater was the only worthwhile sighting on the sea.
