What a shocker: squeezed isobars saw the easterly freshen right up to gale force and, seawatching aside, the day teetered on the brink of unbirdable. The sea was actually extremely busy with the bulk of the numbers concerning auks and Mediterranean Gulls - very many thousands of the former and many hundreds of the latter; 125 Common Scoter was a good total in the context of this autumn, whilst 7 Brent Geese, 4 Eider, 2 Teal and singles of Red-throated Diver, Great Northern Diver, Tufted Duck and Goldeneye - the latter the first of the year - provided further interest. The Snow Bunting and Wheatear remained at the Bill, whilst other odds and ends on or overhead on the land included 250 arriving Starlings, 16 Lapwings and a Brambling at the Bill.
