3rd April

Not quite the day that had been hoped, with the waft of southerly failing to deliver on land or sea. After yesterday's taster there had been high hopes for the sea in particular, but in the event the Bill could only muster 122 Common Scoter, 31 Sandwich Terns, 30 Manx Shearwaters, 9 Red-throated Divers, 6 Black-headed Gulls, 2 Garganey and singles of Black-throated Diver, Arctic Skua and Mediterranean Gull. The land was no better, with 20 each of Blackcap and Wheatear, 10 Chiffchaffs, 5 Goldcrests, 2 Black Redstart, a Firecrest and a handful of passing Swallows the best on offer at the Bill; the 'Eastern' Lesser Whitethroat also remained at Southwell.
