A temporary blip of overcast skies at dawn marked the passing a weather front but presaged no more than the later return of blue skies and pleasant warmth. A
Cuckoo at Cheyne - only the second of the year - and a
Blackcap at the Obs were welcome arrivals on the ground, whilst 70
Swifts, 21
Sand Martins, 8
Swallows, 2
Whimbrel and singles of
Grey Heron,
Curlew and
Redshank passed through overhead or off the Bill; elsewhere, singles of
Dunlin and
Redshank were at Ferrybridge. Another 300
Manx and 3
Balearic Shearwaters passed through off the Bill, along with 7
Common Scoter and 3
Arctic Skuas.
